Kash Patel started out in Miami-Dade County, Florida, as a public defender in 2006. Later on, he worked as a federal public defender in the Southern District of Florida, handling a range of issues such as drug trafficking and murder. He joined the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) National Security Division in 2013 as a prosecutor. In 2014, he started working in the Counterterrorism Department. 

Kash joined Devin Nunes, the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, as a senior aide in 2017. He was the main author of the Nunes memo, which claimed that FBI officials had misused their power during the FBI’s investigation into connections between Donald Trump’s associates and Russian officials.

He joined the International Organisations and Alliances department of the National Security Council in February 2019 at the request of President Trump. Kash became the principal deputy director of national intelligence until May 2020, when he rejoined the National Security Council after being appointed as an advisor to Richard Grenell, the acting director of national intelligence. Christopher C. Miller, acting secretary of defense, appointed Patel as his chief of staff in the same year. 

When Trump’s tenure ended in 2021, Kash left the government. He maintained strong relations with Trump and was also the board member of the Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent firm of the social media platform Truth Social.

Patel entered the office with a goal of fixing FBI operations and stepping up efforts to combat organized crime and government corruption have been priorities for him. 1) The FBI’s alleged political purge

Senator Dick Durbin charged Kash Patel of planning a purge of top FBI officials involved in the January 6 Capitol riot investigation and President Trump’s legal issues throughout his confirmation process. The independence and integrity of the FBI may have been compromised, according to Durbin, who referenced whistleblower claims that Patel had demanded the removal of these employees even prior to his confirmation.

2) The Enemy List

In his book, Government Gangsters: The Deep State, the Truth, and the Battle for Our Democracy, Kash Patel named 60 government officials, journalists and public figures as corrupt. This list included the likes of Hilary Clinton, former FBI directors and CIA directors.
