New Delhi, June 2025- The ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) has announced its mission for this year. For the Indian space organisation, this year is going to be “Gaganyaan Year” for the country. Isro Chairman Dr.V. Narayanan announced the first uncrewed Gaganyaan mission. Let’s understand the further news about it.
What Is Gaganyaan?
Gaganyaan is the Indian Space Research Organisation’s flagship human spaceflight program. This program is aiming to demonstrate India’s Capability to send humans into Space. This will represent a strong country in space technology in front of the world. With this move, India moves towards advancing capabilities in space exploration. They will send 3 to 4 humans into space in the near future. Now the preparation of this mission is going on before it will actually be executed. The first uncrewed Gaganyaan Mission is scheduled to happen in December 2025.
In the mission, the astronaut will travel to a spacecraft orbiting the Earth in Low Orbit(LEO). They will typically go at an altitude of around 400 kilometers. After completing their mission, the spacecraft re-enters Earth’s atmosphere and lands safely, usually with the help of parachutes, allowing astronauts to return to the ground.

Their name and their selection were announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a visit to the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. The mission will eventually narrow down the members, as there were two or three astronauts who were actually going on missions. In the event the Chief of ISRO is also present their who’s name is S Somanath.
What Is The Objective Of Gaganyaan?
The Gaganyaan mission is both a technological and strategic milestone for our country. This leads to a lot of opportunities for India in the out space. Given below are a few objectives of the Gaganyaan. Have a look at these objectives:
- Human Spaceflight Capability: The main mission of the mission is to show India can independently send humans to space and return them safely.
- Conduct Microgravity Experiment: This mission also enables scientific research in a different environment from Earth, which is space. This may benefit various fields like biology, material science and also in medicine.
- Developing Advanced Space Technology: This mission also helps to create and validate systems such as human-rated launch vehicles, crew modules, life support and the crew escape system that are essential for safe human spaceflight.
Final Thought
Currently, the Wing Commander, Shubhanshu Shukla, is already on a ride to space with SpaceX. This helps ISRO as well as him to understand the dynamics of space before the period of actual space. Recently, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi also talked to him about his experience. If this Gaganyaan mission is successfully launched and completed, then it will open different kinds of opportunities for India in the coming time. By successfully sending Indian astronauts into space, ISRO will not only achieve a significant milestone but will also inspire a new generation of scientists and innovators.
